New York, New York—(February 26th, 2013) The Young, Gifted, and Black (YGB) Entrepreneurial Awards, will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 in New York City, honoring African-American & Caribbean professionals who are the “unsung heroes” within their communities.

In keeping with tradition, the YGB Entrepreneurial Awards program will again honor individuals who “strive towards the Continued Pursuit of Success.”  Here are a few of this year’s honorees within varied industries and professions that will receive the YGB Professional Service Awards in addition to a special recognition award presented to those persons accumulating over 20 years in business with the YGB Millennium Business (M.B.) Award

Robert “Don Pooh” Cummins
, International House of Pancakes (IHop) Owner & Franchisee and known in the hip-hop community as the former MCA Records executive and producer behind Foxy Brown and Mary J. Blige and currently runs his own music management company, will receive the M.B. Award in Strategic Business Development & Management; Flatbush Nostrand Business Improvement District’sExecutive Director,Michelle McClymont, will receive the Strategic Business Development Award;

 iconic music producer from the Caribbean island of Jamaica, Stone Love Enterprise, Founder, President and CEO, Winston “Wee Pow” Powell, celebrating 40 years in the industry will receive theM.B. Award in Sound System Production; 

Special Assistant, Manhattan District Attorney’s Office for External and Community Affairs, Linara J. Davidson 
will receive the Women in Business Award, based on her  current duties and track record as the former Community Liaison of Central and West Harlem in the Office of Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer,  she holds a MPA from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs Executive program and is a graduate of the Coro Leadership NY Program with a B.S. in Humanities and a Concentration in Literature from New York University.

Director of Multimedia Sales, Earl G. Graves Ltd./ Black Enterprise Magazine’s  advertising/marketing expert, Maximillian L. Hamilton, known for being one of the company's top revenue generators, while serving as the Founder  and Managing Partner at Rogue Media Group, LLC, will receive the Sales, Marketing & Advertisement Award;

Former model and owner of Salon 804 in Harlem, New York City, Rochelle A. Mosley, whose clients include tennis champion Serena Williams, TV personalities Judge Karen and Judge Hatchett, Singer Roberta Flack, Comediennes Adele Givens and Sommore and Philanthropist and wife of Comedian Chris Rock, Malaak Compton-Rock, will receive the Community Empowerment & Leadership Award;

[Nina Simone Artistic Excellence Awards]
Created as a special tribute to honor the legacy of Nina Simone an American singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, and civil rights activist who scored the original sound track “Young, Gifted & Black”, the YGB Entrepreneurial Awards will again honor two artistic individuals for their works.  Caribbean-American Celebrity Photographer, Ajamu Myrie alongside Dancer & Choreographer, Damien Patterson, will receive the 2013 Nina Simone Artistic Excellence Award in their respective fields. Special musical tributes are scheduled during the presentations by rising child star Cheyenne Wright, 1st place winner on Apollo Amateur Night and HBO Def Poet/Singer/Activist, Shanelle Gabriel, known as a soulful singer, poet, lyricist, and an advocate for Lupus Awareness  To round out the list of rising stars soul and R&B singer, Charisse Lee Quai, from the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago will also perform. Facebook Fan Page

The intent of the awards program is to acknowledge individuals whose journey towards success can motivate, inspire and empower others by highlighting the paths each honoree has taken throughout his/her life.  Honorees are nominated by previous award recipients or peers who appreciate the individual’s drive for success—from where he/she has been in life to where he/she is now as an ambassador of the entrepreneurial spirit.

 The 2013 YGB Awards Program non-profit fiscal partner sponsor is the Chris Rose Community Empowerment Campaign, a certified NYS 501 c (3) charity.  The YGB Awards will make a 10% donation to CRCEC from all sponsorships and payments made on behalf of the program. In addition the YGB Entrepreneurial Awards Program scholarship initiative, Providing Opportunity With Effective Resource Networks Motivates Optimizes Transcends Inspires Organizes Nurtures (P.O.W.E.R.-N-M.O.T.I.O.N.) individuals towards empowerment, will make a donation to the American Foundation for the University of the West Indies ( to support students with tuition, books and supplies.

About CRCEC: The Christopher Rose Community Empowerment Campaign seeks to fight youth violence by raising community awareness and creating solutions by offering positive alternatives. CRCEC intends to mobilize the community to increase community awareness of the factors that contribute to youth violence; occurrences of violence; the impact of violence; and strategies for preventing delinquency of adolescents that leads to youth gang involvement and community violence.  The Christopher Rose Community Empowerment Campaign is a New York Not-for-Profit corporation with a registered 501(c) 3 status. The interim acting governing body of CRCEC is the Family Coordinating Committee. About AFUWI:
 The AFUWI serves as the primary vehicle for The University of the West Indies in its Capital Campaign and fundraising efforts in the United States.
